3rd Grade Water Exploration

Third grade teamed up to find out where on Earth our water is! Students learned that most of the Earth’s water is salt water and is found in our oceans. Ocean water is represented by the 5 gallon bucket. Other reservoirs of water include glaciers and ice caps, ground water, lakes and inland seas, the atmosphere and rivers and streams. Compared to all of the water in the oceans (5 gallon bucket) glaciers and ice caps hold 1 cup of water, ground water holds 1/3 of a cup, lakes and inland seas 1/4 teaspoon, the atmosphere has 1 drop, and rivers and streams only account for a flick of water. This is a great example of how vast our oceans are and how much more there is to explore and learn about the ocean and the creatures who live there!
