Welcome, families!

My name is Morgan Curtis. I am an Exceptional Children's teacher here at SHV. I am so excited to be working with your student this school year! I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Special Education - General and Adapted Curriculum from Western Carolina University in 2011. My teaching career then began in 2011 with Haywood County Schools. I later moved and taught in Georgia before returning to NC in 2018. I joined the SHV team at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.

While in Georgia, I returned to WCU to complete my masters degree in Special Education - Severe/Profound Disabilities with a concentration in Autism. I was trained by the Marcus Autism Center of Atlanta and have served as a support in both the special education and regular education classrooms for students on the autism spectrum. I am a Registered Behavior Technician and worked for 3 years as a Behavior Specialist. I have worked at the elementary and high school levels with students with mild to severe disabilities. I was named Teacher of the Year in 2016 while working for The Futures Program.

I have wanted to be a teacher since I could talk and I cannot imagine doing anything other than working with kids with disabilities! I believe all students can learn. I don't think a child's abilities should ever be limited, because you never know what someone's potential is. I truly love what I do! I look forward to all the fun times to come and growth to be made!
