Welcome to the Media Center
Mr. Charles VanHarkness
The media center is a classroom that welcomes all students at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary! With a print collection of approximately 15,000 items and an average monthly circulation of 4,500 items, your child's media center is designed to support and enhance the regular classroom experience.
Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade attend a weekly class where they spend their time engaged with lessons designed to extend the learning that is occurring in their classroom.
Students in 2nd - 4th grades visit on a more "flexible" basis engaged in project based learning primarily related to their social studies and science standards.
Technology is an integral part of your student's education. I work closely with classroom teachers to provide opportunities for technology applications that positively impact student learning.
I joined the staff of SH-V in 2001 as a title one teacher after having taught 4th grade at Estes Elementary. Title One lasted just a year before I was drawn back into 4th grade. There I stayed until taking over the library in 2007.
I hold two graduate degrees in education. The first in educational administration and the second in library and information science. My undergraduate degree is in elementary education.
